As a blogger you always hope that your words are accepted and appreciated. There are two ways that this can be measured, votes and money. Before the internet if someone wrote something great s/he was paid for it either by their employer or through their fans buying their work.
As mentioned earlier it is important to be seen appearing to be busy so that you can establish that image in your superiour's mind. A keys to successfully pull off a few laps around the facility:

Reddit is the devil. I used to be able to occupy myself with out hitting F5 every 30 on the new page hoping for a new and interesting site. I used to peruse Ran, JHK, Yahoo News, Penny Arcade, Energy Outlook, Karavans, Treehugger, Sierra Compass, ESPN, SI.com, etc. but now I know that if anything interesting will be on these blogs it will be on Reddit. I still look at ESPN.com but now that everything is INSIDER ONLY it is a shell of what it used to be outside of the sportsguy. My other vice is bobcatattack.com but that is just a personal torture to follow my beloved 'cats. Back to Reddit, the site recently (last few months) has degraded into a bunch of email forwards, flickr links, youtube links, and in the minority - excellently written articles/blog entries pertaining to a global audience. Pardon my french but it is the FUCKING AMERICANS that have ruined everything, myself included. We dumb everything down by our collective think, pop culture, and desire to prove we are correct. If anyone has another social networking site not related to or resembling: facebook, myspace, digg, or the current site known as reddit please let me know. Until then I guess I will try to do some work.
Reading this NY Times article I got to the line where she compares parts of Iraq to the devastation of a hurricane and suddenly I thought - "well of course we are screwed in Iraq, we can't even fix our own problems. WHEN NO ONE IS TRYING TO BLOW US UP".

Has it really been 4 months. Damn. Not much has changed politically, oh wait, thats right congress is not full of Democrats. Of course that means jack when the president can do what ever he wants when ever he wants. Blah blah blah its all the same, reddit is losing its charm as a cutting edge source for new and interesting articles on the web. Instead it is now a giant youtube/flickr link source. JHK is holding down the fort of the "just wait", ofcourse this is hard to do when gas prices are consistantly below $2/gal in rural America. And then there is Ran who is too damn smart/out there for me. Love the ideas but man o' man I just can't keep up. Boredom has driven me to post this, if you know of the new reddit please let me know because I might actually start looking for something to do at work soon if I don't find something new.
