From dictionary.com we learn that hypochondria is: The persistent conviction that one is or is likely to become ill, often involving symptoms when illness is neither present nor likely, and persisting despite reassurance and medical evidence to the contrary.
I list this because I think we live in an age where the mass media is plying for your viewship and the internet has allowed for instant access to news world wide the moment it happens. I think many times this causes overload and we think the world is going down the porcelin god. But is it really that much worse now than in the past or are we just covering more of it and have more knowledge of the bad things? I have discussed and swore that I was going to start a site with nothing but good/positive news. This would be harder than you would think. Unless you count news about county fairs and lottery winners it is going to pretty limited.
Unfortunately I am a news junkie, my wife has asked me numerous times why I stop by the computer on the way from the bed room to the kitchen. I tell her that I have to make sure the end of the world didn't happen while I was sleeping. I can't go an hour at work with out checking the major news networks to see what is happening. It is like Don Henley sang about in "Dirty Laundry":
We can do "the innuendo"
We can dance and sing
When it’s said and done
We haven’t told you a thing
We all know that crap is king
Give us dirty laundry!
Too true....
