Energy Today

I have been discussing Chinese politics stemming from this article about China and the morallity of dealing with countries known to be persecuters of human rights. I must preface my stance by stating that in no way do I think that countries like the Sudan should be able to profit while commiting such attrocities. BUT they did not develop the oil, they did not grow the oil, they were just lucky enough to lay their heads down to sleep on top of it. This is the same for Venezula, Iran, Iraq, etc al, we can not alter the fact that this is where the oil is.

What is unfortunate about this entire farce of global energy is that these areas would not mean diddly poo to anyone (USA, China, EU) if they did not have said resources. So to be righteous in one place but not another (Latin America, Polynesia) is hypocritical, so the China stance is straight foward and atleast honest. They are there for the oil, period, end of sentence. They don't care about the people, just like they don't care if America is spiralling out of control regarding debt because of all the Asian banks that are pumping money into us to keep buying Chinese made products. The US invades Iraq for all the given reasons but they made the mistake of putting their foot right in a pit of quicksand.

The arguement presented to me (thanks Billy) is that one day it will come around to bite them as it has the US. In the 70's and 80's we were supporting Iraq and funding its war, now we are fighting those whom we trained. I agree with this, but it is moot to mention now. No one cares what happens in 15 years, the 15 years of cheap oil that the US gained by doing what it did helped to propel us to higher grounds. China will do what ever it has to for energy and it is obvious about it.
