People Watching
Living in a small community has certain privileges, for instance when our village holds their annual festival (which is a ritual that all small towns do around here) everyone goes all out. The entire place gets into it, leading up to this weekends event it rained for nearly 2 weeks straight so this was a huge break that the weather cleared up just in time. Everyone in town is either having a garage sale or is participating in some way to further the experience for people that are attending.
My wife and I had a chance this evening to do some people watching at the a prime location, the window seat of the local coffee house. It was interesting that even though I graduated high school almost 10 years ago that the same clics were present and easily identifiable. For instance the kids wearing the "slayer" t-shirt or the one with long hair wearing the jim morrison shirt. These are the easy ones, we were picking out the art students or the nerds (like looking in a mirror) or even better the daddy's girls who will be future Trixie's.
Sometimes I worry about our society because of this stupid internet, cell phones, cable tv, and blackberries have all contributed to a social system where credit and digital data rule. It was good to see people hugging, waving, chatting, PAYING CASH, and generally laughing with each others.
Tomorrow we bring out our ultimate weapons of socializing: the mutts.
