The power of a click (Reddit vs. Adsense)

As a blogger you always hope that your words are accepted and appreciated. There are two ways that this can be measured, votes and money. Before the internet if someone wrote something great s/he was paid for it either by their employer or through their fans buying their work.

Why should it be any different now?

When we use sites like digg, reddit, or delicious we more than likely are using a tab system. After we complete reading the article we close the tab. Why not click an ad on that site before closing the window as a form of payment? I am doing this just for the people that I enjoy, as a way of saying "attaboy".

The other way a blogger is "paid" is in votes on the site mentioned. This is different for people who are just taking other peoples works (ie. flickr, news, youtube) and posting it to get it exposed. When it is your work it is a sign of acceptance and motivation to write more. This method is a payment for the ego.

Now imagine if these two forces were used together, if an up vote was given but also an ad was clicked before leaving. It would be like a ball rolling down a snowy hill, getting larger and faster as it went.
